What it is

Natural material from lichen phenolic aldehydes present in oakmoss and treemoss extracts.

When you smell it

Dry-down: hours later.

What perfumers do with it

Never added on purpose: removed from moss extracts because they are potent skin allergens.

Worth knowing

Chloroatranol can trigger reactions in already-sensitised people at just a few parts per million.

Rules

Not allowed. Prohibited in EU cosmetics under Regulation 2017/1410 (2019–2021).
