Bitter almond oil (FFPA)

Intense marzipan and bitter almond, rounder than pure benzaldehyde.

What it is: Natural oil from crushed bitter almond or apricot kernels, distilled after enzymes release benzaldehyde.
When you smell it: Top notes: the first minutes.
What perfumers do with it: Natural almond-cherry lift for gourmands and heliotrope accords; almost pure benzaldehyde.
Worth knowing: The raw oil contains deadly hydrogen cyanide, which must be removed before any use.
Rules: Limited. Only prussic-acid-free grades allowed; benzaldehyde limits apply.
