What it is: Natural absolute from dormant winter buds of Ribes nigrum.
Where it comes from: Burgundy, France
When you smell it: Top notes: the first minutes.
What perfumers do with it: Gives authentic cassis tang to fruity chypres and florals; used in small doses.
Worth knowing: Its catty edge comes from a sulfur molecule also found in Sauvignon Blanc wine and box-tree leaves.
