Cedarwood oil (Chinese)

Smoky, dry cedar-pencil wood with a tarry, burnt edge.

What it is: Natural oil from wood and roots of Cupressus funebris.
Where it comes from: China
When you smell it: Dry-down: hours later.
What perfumers do with it: Cheapest cedar oil, used for volume in functional products and smoky woody effects.
Worth knowing: Botanically a cypress, not a cedar; its low cedrol content makes it the budget cedar of the trade.
Rules: Limited. Its α-cedrene counts toward the IFRA 49th Amendment cedrene limit.
