Cedarwood oil (Texas)

Smoky, dry pencil-cedar with a distinct leathery, tarry edge.

What it is: Natural oil from wood of Juniperus ashei (J. mexicana).
Where it comes from: Texas and Mexico
When you smell it: Dry-down: hours later.
What perfumers do with it: Low-cost cedar for tobacco, leather and chypre accords where extra smokiness helps.
Worth knowing: Texas cedar wood resists rot so well that ranchers use it for fence posts.
Rules: Limited. Its α-cedrene counts toward the IFRA 49th Amendment cedrene limit.
