Sweet mandarin-grape, orange-blossom-like, soft and musky-fruity.

What it is: A molecule made in a lab.
Where it comes from: synthesized, natural in mandarin oil and mandarin petitgrain
When you smell it: Heart: the first hours.
What perfumers do with it: Key to mandarin and petitgrain-mandarin accords; softer and less grapey than methyl anthranilate.
Worth knowing: Like its cousin methyl anthranilate, it fluoresces blue under ultraviolet light.
Rules: Limited. Phototoxic and can form nitrosamines; IFRA dose limit
