What it is: Natural absolute from solvent-extracted hyacinth flowers.
Where it comes from: historically France and the Netherlands
When you smell it: Heart: the first hours.
What perfumers do with it: Historic green-floral nuancer; today almost always replaced by synthetic hyacinth bases.
Worth knowing: Genuine hyacinth absolute is now almost impossible to buy; suppliers sell natural reconstructions instead.
