Iralia

Say itih-RAY-lee-uh

Refined, sweet iris-violet, more powdery and less fruity than ionones.

What it is: A molecule made in a lab.
When you smell it: Dry-down: hours later.
What perfumers do with it: Premium methyl ionone for violet, carnation and spicy tea notes; often paired with Hedione.
Worth knowing: Firmenich has protected the Iralia name since 1966, though methyl ionones date to around 1900.
Rules: Limited. IFRA limits for methyl ionone isomers (49th Amendment)
Also called: Iralia Total; methyl ionone blend
