Sweet carnation and clove, softer and more floral than eugenol.

What it is
A molecule made from a natural raw material.
When you smell it
Heart: the first hours.
What perfumers do with it
The carnation note of classic florals and spicy orientals; also sweetens tobacco accords.
Worth knowing
Before petrochemical routes, most synthetic vanillin was made by oxidising isoeugenol from clove oil.
Rules
Limited. Tight IFRA limits as a strong skin sensitiser.
