Resinous green and piney, balsamic, slightly spicy, with a wet-leaf note.

What it is: Natural oil from steam-distilled leaves, twigs or resin.
Where it comes from: Spain, Morocco, Greece (Chios)
When you smell it: Top notes: the first minutes.
What perfumers do with it: Adds Mediterranean resinous-green texture to aromatic, chypre and fresh-woody accords.
Worth knowing: Mastic resin from the Greek island of Chios has been chewed as gum since antiquity.
