What it is

A molecule made in a lab, first made by Givaudan in 1956.

When you smell it

Heart: the first hours.

What perfumers do with it

Once the workhorse muguet: added volume, softness and clean floral lift to everything from perfume to shampoo.

Worth knowing

Within decades of its 1956 patent it was in shampoos, lotions, deodorants and detergents as well as perfumes.
