What it is: Natural oil from steam-distilled gum resin of Commiphora myrrha.
Where it comes from: Somalia, Ethiopia, Yemen
When you smell it: Dry-down: hours later.
What perfumers do with it: Adds dark, bitter, ecclesiastical depth to incense, amber and rose accords.
Worth knowing: Ancient Egyptians used myrrh in embalming; it was also one of the three gifts of the Magi.
