Oakwood absolute

Oak barrel: cognac-like, vanilla, coconut and dry tannic wood.

What it is: Natural absolute from oak wood chips (Quercus robur, Q. petraea).
Where it comes from: France
When you smell it: Dry-down: hours later.
What perfumers do with it: Adds barrel-aged, boozy woodiness to gourmand, tobacco and whisky-cognac accords.
Worth knowing: Its coconut note is oak lactone, the same molecule barrel-ageing gives to whisky.
