Intensely concentrated orris: cool violet, buttery-woody root and faint raspberry.

What it is: Natural absolute from orris butter stripped of fatty acids.
Where it comes from: mainly Iris pallida from Italy
When you smell it: Dry-down: hours later.
What perfumers do with it: The purest, most potent iris note; tiny doses give luminous powdery depth to luxury perfumes.
Worth knowing: With about 80% irones, it can sell for well over $100,000 a kilo.
