Full-bodied, dark earthy-woody patchouli with deep, winey, chocolatey richness.

What it is: Natural oil from patchouli leaves distilled in traditional iron stills.
Where it comes from: Indonesia
When you smell it: Dry-down: hours later.
What perfumers do with it: Classic full patchouli for chypres and orientals where depth and heft are wanted.
Worth knowing: Iron stills tint the oil dark; among dark grades, the cleaner and less dirty the dry-down, the higher the prestige.
Also called: Patchouli brut; iron-distilled patchouli
