Sweet vanilla-cinnamon balsam with a heavy, syrupy, slightly smoky warmth.

What it is: Natural resin extract from oleoresin from wounded Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae trees.
Where it comes from: El Salvador
When you smell it: Dry-down: hours later.
What perfumers do with it: Historic balsamic fixative in orientals; now replaced by permitted distilled or extracted grades.
Worth knowing: Despite the name it comes from El Salvador; colonial cargoes shipped through Peruvian ports, and the label stuck.
Rules: Not allowed. IFRA prohibits the crude balsam: a leading skin allergen.
