Cleaner, lighter oud—woody, slightly sour-leathery, less deep than wild oils.

What it is: Natural oil from plantation Aquilaria trees inoculated to induce resin.
Where it comes from: Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka
When you smell it: Dry-down: hours later.
What perfumers do with it: More sustainable, consistent oud supply for perfumery; often blended with wild oils.
Worth knowing: Growers drill trunks and introduce fungal inoculants, prompting resin within a few years instead of waiting for chance infection.
Rules: Limited. CITES Appendix II applies to plantation agarwood too; permits needed.
Also called: Cultivated or inoculated agarwood oil
