Natural material from alcohol fraction distilled from sandalwood oil (Santalum album or spicatum).

When you smell it

Dry-down: hours later.

What perfumers do with it

Concentrated sandalwood core to boost natural oils or rebuild sandalwood where whole oil is too costly.

Worth knowing

β-Santalol, a key carrier of sandalwood's smell, had its structure worked out by Leopold Ružička around 1935.
