Treemoss absolute

Mossy, inky and damp with resinous pine-turpentine and leathery facets.

What it is: Natural absolute from pseudevernia furfuracea lichen from pine and fir bark.
Where it comes from: Europe
When you smell it: Dry-down: hours later.
What perfumers do with it: Darker, cheaper mossy alternative in chypres and fougères; adds resinous forest-floor depth.
Worth knowing: Because it grows on conifers, it picks up resin acids from the bark, which give it a piney edge.
Rules: Limited. Same IFRA limits as oakmoss, tied to atranol and chloroatranol.
