Sharp, fresh pine resin and terpene, the paint-thinner smell, with a balsamic-woody warmth.
- What it is
- Natural oil from distilled from resin tapped from living pines (Pinus spp.).
- Where it comes from
- also a byproduct of kraft paper pulping
- When you smell it
- Top notes: when you spray it.
- What perfumers do with it
- Cheap pine effects in air fresheners and pine-needle reconstructions; mainly the feedstock for pinene-based aroma chemicals.
- Worth knowing
- The word first meant the resin of the terebinth tree, as in Chios turpentine, before pine oil took over the name.
