Spicy clove-like leaf with a fresh, sharp, slightly medicinal warmth.

What it is: Natural oil from leaves of Pimenta racemosa.
Where it comes from: Dominica and the Caribbean
When you smell it: Heart: the first hours.
What perfumers do with it: The spicy heart of bay rum aftershaves; adds clove-leaf warmth to masculine accords.
Worth knowing: Bay rum, the classic barbershop splash, was first made by steeping or distilling these leaves with Caribbean rum.
Rules: Limited. Limited through eugenol, methyl eugenol and estragole content (IFRA).
